The last few days have been very intersting here at SPQ 04. On Tuesday, Nigel Aylott from team AROC, was killed by a boulder during the orienteering section. A decent article is here: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/192076_adventuredeath23.html. I found out late Wednesday night after hiking out from CP 23 which was shut down after the accident.
The past few days have been spent at TA6 just sitting around and doing whatever needed to be done. I helped with the kayaks on Friday and Saturday morning (6ish).
I’m back at HQ right now and I’m helping with the finish line. I’m handing out the national flags and the roses for the female racers. I’m hoping to see the GA and TN teams I know finish tonight. It’s nearly 12:30AM here and I should be up until about 4 or 6AM. Time to jet!
All those people that said it doesn’t rain much in Seattle lied to me. “It doesn’t rain a lot; just often”. That’s a lie! Propaganda by the Seattle tourism board I say. So far is has rained every day and more than once each day. I also found out my tent has some tears in the rain fly…not a great place to find this out! Duct tape to the rescue on that one though. Well, last night I got lucky and got a hotel room for the night! A bed, toilet, shower, etc. It was great! It’s back to the tent tonight, then I pack up my stuff for a warm floor somewhere Saturday, and then I leave Sunday morning for CP3. A night or so at a TA and then off to CP21 sometime after that.
Yesterday was parking duty and today not much really. I’m headed into town in a little later for some food, a warm hat (I have like 3 at home but I forgot them; it sucks), and more stuff.
So far I’ve had two of my favorite beers while I’m here! I had some Fat Tire at the Denver airport on Tuesday and then I had some Pyramid Hefe on Wednesday night at the volunteer dinner. Hummm….beer.
I missed the second episode of the new season of “That 70’s Show” on wednesday. I’m quite hurt on that one. Time for a trip into town. I’m not sure I’ll have computer access for the next few days but if I do I’ll try to update the blog a bit. Adios!
I’m in the San Juan Islands right now. Orcas Island to be exact. It’s beautiful out here! I arrived last night after over 12 hours of travel via car, train, plane, shuttle bus, ferry, and van. Six modes of travel in one day! I think I set the world record yesterday. Anyways, I have to run for a meeting so I need to go. I’ll update this as time permits. Later!
I’m leaving for Seattle, WA butt early Tuesday morning. I’ve never been to Seattle so I’m excited to go. I’m hoping to have my fair share of Pyramid Brew while I’m up there too! I had the Pyramid Hefe years ago (2000) while in Phoenix and have been trying to get some since; it’s great stuff. It’s brewed in Seattle so I better get some while I’m there.
I’ll have limited access to a computer while in Seattle but I hope to update my blog a few times while I’m there. Look for me on the SPQ website in the picture section sometime! Once I get back I hope to upload my pictures to the cpadventures.com site too. See you in a few weeks!
Oh yeah, look for some big changes in the Checkpoint Adventures website in the next 3-5 months. There is a huge change coming!
