A recent visit to the Adventure Sports Magazine (ASM) website reveals that the magazine is coming back into publication. I loved the magazine and was sorry to see it go. It was the only magazine that I would nearly read cover to cover the first day; often finishing the entire magazine on the second day. I look forward to seeing it back and hopefully the troubles of the past are behind them and they continue to make a great product.

With the unfortunate departure of Adventure Sports Magazine (ASM), there is a void in adventure racing print material. Navigation Games Magazine (NGM)is looking to fill the void left when ASM closed the doors. Currently only available as a pdf download, they are hoping to ultimately become a print magazine. Navigation Games Magazine is “meant to serve all activities that involve navigation in some fashion: Adventure Racing, Orienteering, Rogaining, Geocaching, etc.” For anyone on a dial-up connection, I suggest you download the magazine at work (or somewhere with a broadband connection) as the first issue is a rather large 42mb (looks like they have a web version for those broadband challenged web surfers too). Best of luck to the whole staff at NGM!
Based on the site redesign and schedule on the “Team Montrail” website, it looks like Montrail is no longer a title sponsor of any adventure racing team. A quick check on the Montrail website confirms this because Rebecca, Patrick, and Co are no where to be found. I wonder if the recent sale to Columbia Sportswear had anything to do with this decision?
Looks like Rebecca Rusch is going to be racing with a number of all female teams or half and half teams (Team Buff with Emma Rocca and Team AROC with Alina McMaster) this year. Best of luck Rebecca and all the other members of the former Team Montrail (Patrick, John, Novak)!
To those that call themselves “navigator”, prepare to be humbled.
On July 7th and 8th 2006 the directors of Double Dog Dare and Adventure24 will present an event inspired in part by the infamous Barkley Marathon.
Part ultra marathon, part orienteering, and part rogaine…the Ultra O-gaine will be fraught with difficult navigation throughout the rugged terrain of Pine Log WMA. This prime 14,000 acre venue is a short one hour drive north of Atlanta.
The Ultra O-gaine will be open to solos and teams of two and three. The event will offer three courses: The Ultra (24 hour) course, the Half-Ultra (12 hour) course, and a 6 hour Rogaine course.
Warning: This event is designed to test the most experienced navigators, thus the level of difficulty is intended to be very high.
