Primal Quest Utah Trailer

There’s a pretty long Primal Quest video trailer over on Don Mann’s website. The coverage looks to be very good. Air dates for the broadcast are also on the website. Looks like there will be 5hrs of PQ coverage on ESPN2 and ABC. I can’t wait!

UOG is a hit

The Ultra O-gaine has come and gone, and for the most part Patrick and I have recovered. My Jeep was full of UOG stuff up until Saturday when a combination of moving and having a wedding shower made me finally unload everything (only to reload it again with wedding gifts).

We have received a fair amount of feedback from racers about the event. Everyone seemed to have a really good time! We sent out a survey last week to get feedback from everyone. So far, 25 of 25 people have said they would consider racing the UOG again in 2007! The survey results have also given us some good ideas about how to improve the event for next year. All indications are that the event will return for 2007.

Want to see some of the carnage? Check out the pictures by Robert Milks from Wilderness Adventure Photography. Want to see some of the carnage first hand? Many of the checkpoint bags are still hanging so you can practice your navigation by joining the hunt for the remaining bags.

In closing, Patrick and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and had a good time. We enjoyed the event as well! Thank You is in order for our volunteers who came out and spent some of the weekend with us. A big thanks to our sponsors Hammer Nutrition, Tec Labs (makers of Tecnu Extreme), Potable Aqua, Zanfel, Sportshield, MaraNatha, and mytopo.

Hopefully we’ll see you at a Checkpoint Adventures event next year!

Le Tour is crazy

The Tour de France was turned on its head yesterday when Floyd Landis completely exploded on the final climb of the day. Landis, in the yellow jersey at the stage start, is now over eight minutes back in the GC classification! I’ve only been watching the Tour for a few years but even the announcers say this is the strangest Tour in many years. I knew that Basso and Ullrich were head and shoulders above the rest of the field. Once they were tossed from the race everyone expected the Tour to be wide open. What I didn’t know is how close the next 5-8 riders really are in terms of ability. Before stage 16 started I thought Landis was almost a sure bet to win. I wonder if Phonak is kicking themselves for letting Oscar Pereiro break away from the peloton? What a crazy Tour indeed.

A24 wrap-up

I posted a story to Checkpoint Zero to recap the 2006 Adventure24. Thanks to everyone who came out and raced or volunteered. To look at or buy pictures of the race, click here. Robert Milks was the photographer who you saw on the course and he is also the one who provided the picture for the Checkpoint Zero article (which is my favorite picture of them all). We hope to see you at another Checkpoint Adventures event. We already know we will see a number of you at the Ultra O-gaine this weekend!

Doping scandal rocks Tour de France

I awoke Friday morning checking my usual websites. Soon after, I was completely amazed at what I read. Not only was my favorite to win the tour tossed out (Basso), but so was Jan Ullrich, Francisco Mancebo, and a few others. With the others that were tossed out, that forced Alexandre Vinokourov to withdraw because he didn’t have the mandatory amount of riders on his team to start. Wow! It seems from some other sites that I’ve read and friends I’ve talked to, many consider cycling to be the dirtiest sport around. I think what’s so shocking about all of the riders being tossed out, is that right now there seems to be no actual proof of them doping. They are being forced not to race just because they are said to have contact with a Spanish doctor linked to an on going doping probe in Spain called Operación Puerto. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
