The Staff
Kevin Fordham - Race Director/Course Designer - Adventure24
Having been involved with adventure racing for about three years now, Kevin became hooked after just 20 minutes. It took only 20 minutes because that is how long his first adventure race lasted. 20 minutes into his first race, a teammate flew off his bike and hit a tree which required a trip to the hospital. In three years his team is the only team to NEVER finish that particular race.
Soon after his first race, he got involved with the Trailblazer Adventure Racing Club (TBARC). In 2003 he became the Director of Events for TBARC and began to setup trainings, clinics, and meetings for the club. January 2004 came around and the club was talking about hosting a race. Kevin answered the call and pulled both course designer and race director duties for the 2004 Midnight Rush Adventure Race in August of that year. The event was hailed a success and Kevin again directed the Midnight Rush AR in 2005.
Kevin's racing resume includes some of the Southeast's best races. Kevin has participated in the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race, Raging Russell, North Georgia Adventure Race (NGAR), and others. In 2003 and 2004 he has been a CP captain at the Subaru Primal Quest. Taking knowledge from racing, directing, and volunteering, he aims to combine that knowledge into top quality races for all skill levels.
Cathi Cannon - Volunteer Director/Assistant RD
Cathi's first involvement with endurance sports came in 2001 when she signed up for the Honolulu Marathon with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training program. Even though the furthest she had run to that point was 4 miles, she successfully completed all 26.2 and came back wanting more. The following year TNT participated in the Hi-Tec Sprint Adventure Race, which became Cathi's first AR (and first time on a mtn bike and first time kayaking). This was the beginning of the end.
That summer, Cathi became involved with the TrailBlazers, helping out here and there with the website. As the club grew, she became Director of Marketing & Communications, as well as the Webmaster. Over the past several years, she has helped the club's website grow into the most comprehensive club site in the country.
Cathi's race experience has been recently undergoing the transformation from sprint races to those of longer distances. In addition to several 12-hour races, she has recently completed the NGAR, Smoky Mountain AR and Raging Russell. She is also an experienced support crew for multi-day races and supports her race habit by volunteering at races when she can. For those wanting to keep up with her racing you can visit her website Be Back On Monday.
Patrick Bair - Race Director/Course Designer - Ultra O-gaine
As a racer, volunteer, support crew, and race director Patrick has been an avid advocate of all things AR since 1999. His biggest contribution to the sport was co-founding a grass-roots organization known as the Nashville Adventure Racers (NashvAR), in which Patrick (with the help of a few dedicated AR addicts) introduced adventure racing to the middle Tennessee masses. In addition to designing and directing dozens of mock races and training events for NashvAR, Patrick designed and directed NashvAR's highly successful Double Dog Dare AR in 2003.
In 2004, new opportunities brought Patrick to Atlanta where he continues to support AR as an active member of TBARC. In late 2005 Patrick joined the Checkpoint Adventures staff to design and direct a new event. Patrick has been the driving force behind making the Ultra O-gaine a reality.
